The perfect mix-n-match rotation
"It's the best part of the day," I think to myself as I get up out of the Gainesville Lunch Out Blog's Daily GLOB pilot seat at exactly 6:20 in the morning. It is time for another fantastic, energizing trek to the Bagel Bakery on 4113 NW 16th Blvd.
Each workday morning, I wake between 4:40 and 5:00 to make sure I get the Daily GLOB in mostly done by 6:30 so I can take a 12-minute through-the-looking-glass walk to the land of sausage, egg, and cheese, onion, jalapeno, sun-dried-tomato bagels, cranberry nut muffins, and, what I am told, are the best blueberry muffins in Gainesville.
Thought-provoking, invigorating, exhilarating are good ways to describe my thoughts moving forward past the dark, emptier-than-usual parking lots of the Thornebrook business area. Turning the corner near the Thornebrook Shopping Village, I can see the red stop light in the distance at NW16th Blvd. and 41st St. beckoning the GLOB Master to another excellent start of a perfect day:
"What's it going to be this morning GLOB Master," I say talking to myself. "Of course, it is one of my Bagel Bakery triumvirate: Onion, Jalapeno, or Sun-Dried Tomato bagels. It's always one of those. Maybe I'll choose something different this morning."
Maybe Thandie, image left, and Michael are behind the counter working their morning pastry magic with Dave the manager. Those two bagel sandwich makers are funny -- they always try to guess which bagel I'm having. Heck, they know better than I do what I want for breakfast.
Breakfast nears. I see the giant red OPEN in the Bagel Bakery window. It's time to choose my breakfast:
Sausage, egg, and cheese (SEC) on a sun-dried tomato bagel toasted and a small Cranberry Nut Muffin split, toasted, and buttered. The sun-dried tomato bagel might be my favorite for a host of early morning breakfast reasons. The dark, rich, brown color of the bagel is very appealing. The rich flavor of the sundried tomato is evident in the first bite. This bagel, chewier than the other triumvirate bagels, also has a crunchy outside that doesn't .... ? and the tomato flavor doesn't get overwhelmed by the luscious, melted cheese, bountiful eggs, and tangy sausage flavors. This breakfast sandwich never disappoints. ($7.89).
SEC on jalapeno toasted and a small Cranberry Nut Muffin split, toasted, and buttered. This delicious, satisfying bagel sandwich has an interesting texture paradigm taking place with a fluffy bagel inside speckled with tiny pieces of jalapeno peppers. The crust isn't really crunchy, yet there is some 'crackle' to make me think "This is good." It is only after several bites that I become aware of a modicum of heat arising pleasingly in my mouth. My morning carbohydrate blast filling my mouth with sausage, egg, cheese, and bagel churning up waves of umami makes me smile and puts me in have-it-my-way- breakfast nirvana. ($7.89).
SEC on an onion bagel toasted and a small Cranberry Nut Muffin split, toasted, and buttered. The onion bagel possesses maximum flavor power. Among the breakfast trio of flavor gems, it is surprising to me that the onion bagel comes to the forefront with its pronounced flavor, its crunch from the toasted onions that enhances the melding of tastes of the sausage, egg, and cheese. This bagel sandwich is a delight to eat with pieces of yummy, toasted, crunchy onion bits falling on my plate. That's Ok, it's all right, because it is a treat to complete my sandwich by collecting the uneaten 'fleck' of onion and placing them on the last bite of my sandwich. ($7.89).
No mayonnaise, spreads, pickles needed. These are the perfect breakfast sandwiches in my world.
Being a card carrying diabetic, I no longer get to eat a lot of bread, sugars, or carbohydrates. I hope you can imagine the GLOB Master's joy as I eye the Bagel Bakery Cranberry Nut Muffin waiting to please my innermost desire for something sweet and tasty.

I discovered the Bagel Bakery Cranberry Nut Muffin years ago when I took muffins to work in the morning to share with other staffers. I have never found a more mouthwatering pastry confection that even comes close to this banana walnut bread and tart cranberry delight in my world. Mind you, this is coming from a professional eater. My breakfast dessert allows me to shift gears and move forward thinking about what adventures lay ahead for the upcoming day.
'That Blueberry muffin is frikkin' amazing!'
I introduced good friend and MoJo's staffer Kendall Louis to the BB Cranberry Nut Muffin only to have her turn her nose up at my daily, fresh, muffin delight. 'I don't know, it tastes like there is lemon in the muffin," she said making a sour face. It was then I offered her an alternative - the blueberry muffin. I immediately knew there was a new Bagel Bakery muffin fan in our midst when she exclaimed, "That Blueberry muffin is frikkin' amazing!" The GLOB Master couldn't NOT believe Kendall as I watched her inhale two of the giant, chock full of blueberries, sugar bombs in a matter of minutes.
