In celebration of the upcoming 40th Anniversary of "Aloha from Hawaii," Fan Mosaics and Elvis Presley Enterprises teamed up (again) to give fans a chance to honor Elvis's legendary performances. With over 7,000 photos, the mosaic is composed of pictures of fans submitted by the fans themselves. Fans from over 26 countries participated. The Aloha from Hawaii Fan Mosaic poster is a high-quality 24"x30" commemorative print and is available for purchase from the Fan Mosaic website--FanMosaics.com/ElvisAloha. PS, there are other posters too -- Jerry Garcia, Star Trek, etc, etc.
Elvis, Jill & Kate are now in the GLOB building
Was there ever any doubt that, if the GLOB Master were going to write a column on the birthday of the King of Rock 'n Roll, that it would be the first item mentioned to start the new year out in a hunka-hunka-burnin'-love kinda way?
"Thank you, thank you very much."
If you're in the mood to celebrate Elvis Presley's birthday, Chuy's Mexican will pay tribute to The King's birthday with its annual EP Birthday Bash today. Chuy's Jailhouse Rock-themed 78th birthday party will feature all-day special pricing on entrées fit for The King – the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken and the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo. Guests are invited to come dressed as The King (or his better half Priscilla) to receive their entrée for free! Elvis fans can even take home a piece of the fun with giveaways: a guitar pick, temporary jailhouse tattoos, and a special souvenir cup with purchase of a margarita or Blue Hawaiian. Limited edition Elvis and Priscilla T-shirts will also be available for purchase to commemorate the big day.
Two new GLOB columnists for 2013
The GLOB Master likes to check out the Huffington Post (HP) food section regularly to see the latest foodie news there. One of the better things about the HP is that they sometimes capture stories from the web I have missed.
That is how I discovered the Food Republic website over the recent holiday. This website has a lot of interesting food news and foodie features. What I am most excited by is that they have a daily food column about lunch titled What to Eat: Lunch by Food Republic Associate Editor Jill Kapadia. Jill writes a very smart, clever column about all things lunch, which is right up our alley.
Presenting the GLOB's new 'salad lady'
The 2013 GLOB addition we are the most excited about is the new Gainesville "gastro-greenic" specialist Kate Valdofinos joining the GLOB team. Kate will be writing columns about salads and other leafy green lunchtime entrees a couple times a month for all those GLOBers who live for a plate of greens and/or crudités with an occasional protein. Kate's Gainesville Greens column is an offshoot of her popular blog, Kate's Gainesville Salad Blog. Kate has promised us an inaugural column for next week. Ms. Valdovinos is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and hails from Oregon, Wisconsin. Ms. Valdovinos quickly discovered that wintering in Gainesville makes a whole lot more sense than shoveling snow in front of your door to check the mail. Welcome to the GLOB Kate!
GLOB restaurant entree slide show updated
Finally, we have changed all the images in the GLOB's restaurant entree slide show at the bottom of the GLOB home page. There are some very tasty looking lunch entrees in that mix if you need a little help in deciding what's for lunch. The GLOB Master's favorite image is the photo of the Camellia Court Café's Classic Cobb salad with chicken, avocado and balsamic vinegar dressing. Man that image makes the GLOB Master hungry!
